In this beautiful painting by Shane Wolf, a woman emerges anew and free in all her glory. The word Renaissance comes from the French word renaissance, which means “rebirth.” It refers to a period in European history that was marked by a revival of Classical learning and wisdom. The Renaissance was a time of great romance. In the wake of the rediscovery of Classical learning, artists, and poets were inspired by the stories of ancient Greece and Rome. They depicted lovers in idyllic settings, surrounded by nature and beauty. The Renaissance was also a time of great personal freedom, and couples were free to express their love for each other in new and creative ways.
