Étude Alla Prima… a painting finished in one sitting and typically painted using a limited number of colors and layers. The artist will often work wet-on-wet, which means that they will apply the paint while it is still wet. This allows the colors to blend together and creates a more spontaneous and expressive look. Some famous artists who have used the étude alla prima technique include Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt van Rijn, and Édouard Manet. This color study was used as a reference to paint the monumental painting “Ecce Gratum” from Carmina Burana.
