“These women are part of an ethereal group that seem to float in playfulness, in an air of nonchalance, reverie, and invitation. When I first saw Rodin’s “La Porte d’Enfer” (“Gates of Hell)” many years ago, not only was I struck by the power of the work and complexity of the composition, but Rodin’s process by which this amazing piece generated many other compositions and individual works really made sense to me. When one spends so many years delving into a subject, inevitably, that creative process births other ideas, and so on and so on; as such, I recently began a series of paintings called “Excerpts” that are derived from my monumental composition “Carmina” that was displayed at the MEAM (European Museum of Modern Art) in Barcelona last year.” — Shane Wolf.
