This fine print depicts a painter and his model wearing a patterned dress in his studio. The painter is standing in front of the model and looking at her intently. The model is looking ahead, and she seems to be lost in thought. She is wearing a long, flowing dress with a bold print. Its simplified forms and flattened perspective characterize the work. Peintre et Modèle en Robe Imprimée is also notable for its use of the aquatint technique, which allows for a wide range of tonal values, a fine example of Picasso’s mastery of the technique and his ability to create images that are both abstract and figurative. Aquatint is often used to create images resembling watercolor washes and can also be used to create more dramatic effects. Artists have used the technique throughout history, and it is still popular today.
