Skipping, Monumental

This beautiful sculpture is available and speaks of hope, laughter, and overcoming obstacles. For Mackenzie, bringing Skipping to life from his drawing board to a monumental-sized bronze sculpture posed many challenges for the artist and the foundry studio. The large head, the bronze thickness, and the jump in the air frozen in time were all factors that took a long time to figure out how to make it all work. But one day, while admiring the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, he thought, what a marvel of engineering! So he persevered, and Skipping became a reality.

Skipping’s large head is intended to illustrate our enormous capacity as children to embrace and meet straight new experiences and challenges that come our way. The mind is open, free, and full of love. Skipping is a celebration of childhood and imagination — if you give a child a stick, they will turn into a car or an airplane, a cardboard box into a house, or a piece of rope into a skipping rope. No matter what goes on around the world, children will always find a way to hope, laugh, and have fun. ©Mackenzie Thorpe
