Inspired by the famous song, Mackenzie Thorpe’s “Dock of the Bay” is a bronze sculpture of a small child sitting on the edge of a dock. The child is wearing a dark hooded duffle coat and big, sturdy shoes. He is holding a heart in his hands. The child does not have a face, as he is meant to represent every child. The sculpture is realistic and detailed, and the child’s pose is one of contemplation and wonder. The sculpture is a reminder of the innocence and potential of childhood. It is also a symbol of hope and love. (Sittin’ on) the Dock of the Bay” by Otis Redding was inspired by Sausalito, California, which Mackenzie Thorpe visited several times.
