Spanish Impressionist painter Jose Royo is also known as “Royo.” He was born in Valencia, Spain, in 1941 and began his artistic training at a young age, studying drawing, painting, and sculpture with private tutors. In 1955, he entered the San Carlos Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Valencia, where he continued his studies until 1960. After graduating from art school, Royo began exhibiting his work in Spain. He quickly gained a reputation for his vibrant and colorful paintings of Mediterranean landscapes. In 1968, he was commissioned to paint the royal portraits of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain. This important commission brought him national and international attention.
