Donald Sultan is an American painter, printmaker, and sculptor who was born in 1951. He is known for his large-scale still lifes and landscapes and his use of abstracted black forms against areas of bright color. His paintings are abstract and representational, and he often uses common forms such as flowers and daily objects. However, Sultan’s forms are often fragile and de-structured, creating tension and ambiguity in his paintings.
