Sultan is fascinated by the beauty and fragility of the poppy flower. The poppy is a symbol of beauty, but it is also a symbol of death. The bright red petals of the poppy are often associated with blood, while the black center of the flower is associated with death. The juxtaposition of these two colors creates a sense of tension and ambiguity in Sultan’s paintings. This tension can be seen as a reflection of the tension between life and death, beauty and decay.
