The Amber Plum Seaform is a two-piece composition, with each element resting nimbly in a dexterous configuration of soft waves. An unusual body wrap of contrasting velvety purple and tawny gold introduces tangible texture and manifests the fluent motion articulated in this organic form. This striking combination of color and form contributes to the sculpture’s dynamic visual effect. Chihuly’s Seaform series, comprising sculptural yet free-flowing and mobile forms, was an unintentional evolution of his Baskets series. Chihuly discovered that using optical molds during the glassblowing process reinforced the series’s connection to the sea, resulting in its fluid, complex contours. ©Dale Chihuly.
